It is the perfect preparation for the new competition! On Saturday, 28 Augustus 2010, right before the start of the autumn competition, there will be a one-day tournament at BC Drop Shot where you can play at your level together with your double and/or mix partner. We will be playing according to the Swiss Ladder System. About the Swiss Ladder System The Swiss Ladder System is a mathematical formula whereby a computer decides how the matches are played using the ranking in the group. Usually, the number 1 will play against the number 2, the number 3 against the number 4, etc. If the combination has already been played, the next best choice will come up. If, for example, number 1 already played against number 2, number 1 will play against number 3 and number 2 against number 4. The next round will give a new ranking and the process is repeated.
The advantage of this system is that, as the tournament progresses, players start playing against opponents of similar strength, since they will end up ranked together. This means the matches should be interesting for all! Another big advantage is that it is not a knock-out system; everyone will play an equal number of matches. After round 4 there will already be a credible ranking, even if not all possible combinations have been played.
In short * One large group of players * A computer decides who plays who * Lots of games to be played * Opponents of similar strength * No knock-out system * And the best player wins!
The result is a sportive day with lots of matches to be played! Register now! Participants View the current list of participants here. The levels available We will play using 3 levels: Level B: Category 4-5: equals divisions 3 and 4 (derde en vierde divisie) Level C: Category 6-7: equals premier league down to second league regional (hoofdklasse tot en met tweede klasse regio) Level D: Category 8-9: equals third league regional and below (derde klasse regio en lager)
Level B and C play with feather shuttles, level D preferably use nylon. Please note: these are the league levels of the South West Region and levels are different per region. See here to determine your level. Please register for at least the level you will be playing coming season (lower is not allowed, higher is ok).
How to play in the tournament Register for up to two disciplines out of three: Singles, Doubles and/or Mix. Registering for one discipline in different levels is not allowed (so no Doubles in both Level B and C). You play with the partner that you registered with (if you do not have a partner, put ‘wanted’ when registering). For each discipline you will play 3 to 4 matches. We will be playing from 9 am until 9 pm on Saturday 28 August: a full twelve hours! So there are lots of games to be played but you will not need to spend the night away from home.
With the Swiss Ladder System, we will be playing TWO sets per match (but the normal rules apply for a winning score, so up to 30 if necessary). As a result, draws are possible. But no need to worry since the system takes this into consideration and incorporates it in the ranking. Matches should take roughly the same time. As a result more rounds can be played and everyone gets to play roughly the same number of matches.
How much does it cost? €7,50 per discipline with a €1,50 discount per discipline for Drop Shot members. Make a bank transfer to account number 520743 of BC Drop Shot mentioning ‘Zomertoernooi 2010’ in the comments, and pay only €6 per discipline (€4,50 for Drop Shot members). Not very pricy at all for a full day of sports!
Lunch and dinner will be available in the Mariahoeve Sports Centre canteen at a reasonable price.
