BC Drop Shot ends Eredivisie season with win

BC Drop Shot wins the last match of VELO and thus ends the 2024-2025 Eredivisie season with an (unexpected) win. What was also unexpected was the huge turnout of the audience.

It felt like a championship match with so many spectators. Next season we will really miss the meetings with (almost) fellow townsman VELO.

Impressive 1 minute of silence
The day before this match, the badminton world was shocked by the death of badminton icon Robbie Kneefel. At all home matches of BC Drop Shot, Robbie was remembered with an impressive one minute of silence. After the line-up of team 1, Robbie Kneefel was also remembered with an impressive minute of silence, which made many of those present see a bit blurry.

Connection in closing
Although there was nothing at stake in the last match, the idea was to still end this season well and in connection. Selers, parents and volunteers were treated to a delicious Indonesian buffet from Toko Menteng. Members and non-members and even players of VELO also took part in the buffet. With 64 people eating together, we look back on a wonderful gathering.

Of course, Novi Wieland was given an extra spotlight for winning the Dutch Women's Singles Championship on February 2nd.

The match
BC Drop Shot coach Paul de Graaf could only count on Nick Fransman, Novi Wieland and Lars Kros from the regular team and saw substitutes Anissa Wongsodimedjo, Feng Groothuijse and debutant Treffer Tjie join. Amy Tan was the notable absentee at VELO.

Players rise above themselves
With all the substitutes (2nd division players!), expectations were not that high, but sometimes players rise above themselves and that suddenly leads to a 6-2 final score. BC Drop Shot therefore ends in 4th place, only 1 point behind fellow city dwellers and now outgoing national champion BC DKC.
