Badminton icon and coach of BC Drop Shot has passed away

Robbie Kneefel passed away on February 7, 2025, due to the effects of ALS. For decades, Robbie Kneefel was the badminton icon of the Netherlands, and he was also a remarkable figure in the international badminton world.

After his time as national coach and head coach of the Badminton Academy Zuid Holland (BAZH), Kneefel was connected for many years as a trainer to BC Drop Shot.

Motivational coach
Kneefel had a keen eye for talent and knew how to motivate players tremendously. Even during the period when ALS took a heavy toll, his motivational coaching was still highly appreciated by many players. For several players, he was even a true mentor.

Passion and commitment
Kneefel has beautifully colored the badminton world. In November 2024, BC Drop Shot honored his dedication to the sport of badminton in general and his commitment to the club in particular with a lifetime achievement award. This was a recognition of his boundless passion and involvement in our beloved sport.

Lost, but never forgotten
We will feel Kneefel’s influence for a long time to come and will try to continue his wonderful dedication. An icon is lost, but will never be forgotten.
