BC Drop Shot ends the premier league season with a win

BC Drop Shot wins the final match against VELO and thus concludes the 2024-2025 premier league season with an (unexpected) victory. What was also unexpected was the huge turnout from the audience.

It almost felt like a championship match with such a large crowd. Next season, we will truly miss the encounters with (almost) fellow city club VELO.

Impressive 1-minute silence
The day before this match, the badminton world was shocked by the passing of badminton icon Robbie Kneefel. At all home matches of BC Drop Shot, Robbie was commemorated with an impressive one-minute silence. After the line-up of team 1, Robbie Kneefel was also remembered with a moving minute of silence, during which many attendees found their vision somewhat blurred.

Connection in closure
Although there was nothing left at stake in the last match, the idea was to end this season well and in connection. Players, parents, and volunteers were treated to a delicious Indonesian buffet from Toko Menteng. Members and non-members, and even players from VELO, also joined the buffet. With 64 people dining together, we look back on a wonderful gathering.

Of course, Novi Wieland was given some extra attention for winning the Dutch Women’s Singles Championship on February 2nd.

The match
BC Drop Shot coach Paul de Graaf could only rely on regular team members Nick Fransman, Novi Wieland, and Lars Kros, and saw substitutes Anissa Wongsodimedjo, Feng Groothuijse, and debutant Treffer Tjie join the team. At VELO, Amy Tan was the notable absentee.

Players rise above themselves
With all the substitutes (2nd division players!), expectations were not very high, but sometimes players rise above themselves, which led to a 6-2 final score. As a result, BC Drop Shot finishes in 4th place, just 1 point behind fellow city club and now outgoing national champion BC DKC.

The team staff and players would like to thank all supporters for their support throughout the past season, and especially all the volunteers who created a wonderful arena.
